There are so many issues we face during our day to day life. But the biggest and most dangerous issue is the problem of pollution and issues related with environment. The planet earth is livable to the entire living things because of the perfect combination of atmospheric air contents present in it. We all know that atmospheric air contents 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, 0.3% carbon dioxide and remaining traces of other gases like argon, krypton, xenon, carbon monoxide etc. Now this composition of air is the most perfect combination for the living things. Millions of years ago there were no any oxygen present in the atmosphere. The present level of oxygen is because of the photosynthesis process happened inside the sea by the water plants. When the trees and plants developed on the ground, the amount of oxygen again rises and level of carbon dioxide reduces. During photosynthesis process green plants absorbs carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and water from soil and converts it in to starch and oxygen in the presence of sun light. So, presently green plants are the only one Natural source of oxygen available on the planet. Now imagine what happen when the percentage of different elements of air changes? The answer is in the problem of Global warming.
Today in this article we will see how global warming is dangerous to nature. Global warming is caused due to increase in the green house gases in the earth’s atmosphere. The major green house gas is the carbon dioxide. One of the important physical properties of the carbon dioxide is to trap sun rays inside the earth’s atmosphere. When the sun rays strikes on the outer earth’s surface the carbon dioxide allows the short wavelength sun rays to penetrate it and hence the major amount of sun rays can reach up to the earth’s surface. After that earth outer surface temperature rises and again that heat is reemitted back by the earth but with long wavelengths. Now the carbon dioxide blocks these longwavelegth radiations and hence most part of the radiation entrapped inside the atmosphere. This causes rise of atmospheric temperature.
Now more the percentage of carbon dioxide more will be the rise in the temperature. So as the amount of carbon dioxide increases in the atmosphere, the adverse effects of it came in front of us. The major impact of global warming is on the melting of polar ice and increase in the water level of oceans. Also because of global warming the rain cycle in India is greatly affected. There is general rise in the atmospheric temperature found in entire region of world which destroys many endangered species of animals and plants. If the amount of carbon dioxide goes beyond 1% then the earth will not remain livable for any living thing on the earth. So it is very important to reduce or avoid emissions of carbon dioxide in the earth’s atmosphere.
Now in next article we will see the different sources of carbon dioxide and how to eliminate the carbon emission.
